I find that especially interesting because we're coming from somewhat different places -- I'm a recovering math/science nerd with a biomedical background. Always interesting when people from different backgrounds land in the same place perspective-wise.
Di Meola's 70s stuff like Casino and Elegant Gypsy are some of my favorites, he is super versatile and could just use this huge range of sounds and styles from all over the world. African sounds morphing into flemenco then a metal solo. Midnight Tango is an all timer.
